Did you know that there are some amazing healthy cake ideas around, that actually do taste really delicious? It’s no secret that I love cake. To be fair though, who doesn’t love cake?? Part of my healthy eating philosophy is that treats are very important. Actually, make that essential. I believe that trying to be super-healthy, or to lose weight, by cutting out all cakes/chocolate/other delicious things, is a recipe for disaster. Eventually, your body and mind’s need for treats will overcome your willpower, and you’ll end up hoovering up entire packs of cookies all in one go. Or is that just me?!
Anyway, I believe that the best treat of all is cake (although chocolate comes in a very close second). And the best kinds of cakes are always the home baked ones, so you know exactly what’s gone in them! But did you know that you could actually include some ultra-healthy ingredients to make amazingly delicious cakes? Did you know that sweet potatoes and zucchini are amazing additions to your cake repertoire?? Until recently, I did not! Seriously, I had never heard of any of these healthy cake ideas until I came across the sweet potato brownies one day and started to look around for other ideas.
Allow me to present to you seven amazing ideas for delicious cakes with a healthy twist. I hope you enjoy them, I would love to know which is your favorite!
7 Amazing Cakes With A Healthy Twist
Sweet Potato Breakfast Brownies
These gooey fudgy brownies look utterly delicious! My mouth is watering just looking at the picture. They are made with just six ingredients, are paleo, vegan and gluten-free friendly, and don’t contain any butter, oil, grains or eggs. Sweet potatoes are delicious and highly nutritious, not least because of the high levels of vitamin A and B vitamins in them. The recipe says that these brownies are ideal for breakfast, but personally I would be happy to eat them at absolutely any time of the day. Click here to find out how to make them!
No-Bake Avocado Lime Cheesecake
This Avocado Lime Cheesecake is a show-stopper! And it’s deceptively easy to make, with only seven ingredients. Avocados are extremely nutrient dense and contain lots of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat, plus, they taste amazing. Although there’s no baking involved, remember that you’ll have to set it for two hours in the freezer, so you can’t eat it right away! Click here for all the details.
Tropical Fruit Pizza
This Tropical Fruit Pizza looks so delicious! I think this would make an amazing centrepiece for a party-food table, and I can’t think of a better way to get kids to eat loads of fruit – because who could possibly resist this?! Even better, it’s free from gluten, grains, dairy and refined sugar, so it’ll suit lots of different dietary needs. It’s pretty quick and easy to create too – click here to find out how.
Greek Yoghurt, Strawberry & Banana Muffins
These delicious muffins are made with protein-packed greek yoghurt in place of butter, include nutritious rolled oats, are are sweetened with banana and honey rather than refined sugar. You could have them for a breakfast treat (I don’t see anything wrong with a little bit of chocolate at breakfast time?), and they will also work nicely for kid’s afternoon snacks. These are very easy to make, as you basically just chuck all of the ingredients in a blender and whip them up – here’s the full recipe.
Vegan Cake With Avocado Lime Coconut Cream Frosting
Now for something truly impressive! Get those avocados out again for this gorgeous Vegan Cake with Avocado Lime Coconut Cream Frosting. Wow. One of the more unusual ingredients in this is aquafaba, which is apparently the brine from a can of chickpeas – who knew? This one may take you a little longer to make, but it’ll be worth the effort. All the better if you can decorate it as beautifully as the one in the picture! Click here for the details.
Zucchini/Courgette And Orange Loaf Cake
Zucchini (or courgette, depending on what part of the world you’re from!) was the ingredient I was most surprised by when I started looking into healthy cake ideas. It just seems like a bizarre thing to put in a cake, but don’t let that put you off, because by all accounts it’s a delicious ingredient! I think this Zucchini and Orange Cake looks particularly yummy. Just be sure to squeeze out all the moisture you can from the zucchini before adding it. Here are all the details.
We’ve done Sweet Potato Brownies, now here are some Avocado ones too! It would seem that avocado is the undisputed king of healthy cake ideas. This recipe uses 2 avocados to replace butter/oil, and although it does contain sugar, the brownies can work out well with less than the recipe suggests, so feel free to experiment! Find the instructions for this final healthy cake idea here!
So there we have it! While I don’t think you should ever feel guilty for enjoying a slice of cake, you can feel extra virtuous for treating yourself to one of these ideas with a super-healthy twist! I would love to know how you got on with making any of these and if you have any more healthy cake ideas? Let me know in the comments…
